Term starts: Week beginning 22nd September 2025
Structure: 6 weeks of classes, then 1-week break (3rd November), then 6 more weeks
Total: 12 weeks of classes over 13 weeks
Course Overview: This relaxed, hands-on ceramics experience suits all skill levels, with a balance of wheel throwing and hand-building projects to keep things varied and creative. Our curriculum changes every 12 weeks to keep returning students inspired and learning new techniques.
Experienced potters are welcome to work on personal projects with tutor support. If you're keen to master the potter's wheel specifically, we recommend our 12-week Beginners Throwing Course for a more focused approach.
What You'll Learn:
Throwing basic forms: cylinders, bowls, handles, and trimming
Soft and hard slab hand-building techniques
Dug-out method (kurinuki) and agateware (nerikomi)
Pinch pots, coil pots, and creative variations
Slip decoration, underglazes, and surface design techniques
Plus extra methods and projects selected by your tutors
Feel free to request demonstrations or share your ideas and sketches!
Class Details:
Each weekly session is 2.5 hours: over 2 hours of creating plus 10 minutes team clean-up
Please ensure you can attend most sessions before booking - we'll catch you up if you miss a class, but cannot swap days as all classes are at capacity
All tools, equipment, and aprons provided
Bonus Opportunities: Regular weekly "drop-in" sessions available for extra practice! Book up to 6 weeks in advance - these run throughout the week during term time.
