Wheel Throwing Course

Book 12 Week Beginners Throwing

£450 per person, all materials and firings included.

Next Course Dates:

  • Term starts: Week beginning 22nd September 2025

  • Structure: 6 weeks of classes, then 1-week break (3rd November), then 6 more weeks

  • Total: 12 weeks of classes over 13 weeks

  • Options: Thursdays 6:30pm-9:00pm OR Sundays 5:00pm-7:30pm

Course Information: This course guides you through all the essential techniques for making functional pottery on the wheel - mugs, bowls, dishes, and more. All materials included, plus glazing and firing of up to 16 items (other potteries charge per piece!). Extra pots can be fired for a small fee to cover materials and firing costs.

You'll Master the Foundations:

  • Preparing clay properly and getting comfortable with the wheel

  • Good posture and wheel setup

  • Centering, pulling even walls, and shaping pots

  • Trimming (turning) your pieces

  • Surface decoration using slips and glazes

Your tutor will demonstrate extra techniques and take requests - if there's something you're keen to make, just ask!

Past Projects Include:

  • Chip & dip platters

  • Candlestick holders

  • Lemon juicers

  • Dog bowls

  • Pasta bowls

What you make depends on your individual ability - we'll adjust projects to suit your level.

What to Bring:

  • Comfortable clothes and shoes you don't mind getting dirty

  • Important: Trim fingernails short, tie back long hair, remove hand jewellery

Class Details:

  • Each session: 2.5 hours (2 hours creating + 30 minutes team clean-up)

  • Please ensure you can attend most sessions before booking - we'll catch you up if you miss a class, but cannot swap days as all classes are at capacity

  • All tools, equipment, and aprons provided

Bonus Opportunities: Regular weekly "drop-in" sessions available for extra practice! Book up to 6 weeks in advance - these run throughout the week during term time.
