Intermediate level Workshop with Will Keating

Learn to throw bigger and lighter pots on the wheel with Wirral based studio potter Will Keating.

Rapidly level-up your throwing in this one-day workshop, with demonstrations and one-to-one troubleshooting, to help you throw more clay, more efficiently.

Having trained under master potters from Korea to America, Will brings a wealth of experience to help you throw consistently and efficiently. We’ll start with simple forms, a focusing on minimising the need for trimming.

Once you’re comfortable, we’ll move on to more advanced shapes.

In this workshop, students will learn:

  • Proper clay preparation for bigger pots

  • Centring and lifting more clay

  • Throwing efficiently to reduce the need for trimming

  • Throwing more advanced forms, such as lidded jars, jugs and wide bowls

This workshop is recommended for intermediate potters, who are already comfortable centring and pulling clay, looking to rapidly improve their throwing ability.

Will Keating Bio

Will is a studio potter making reduction fired stoneware. He uses locally sourced rocks, clays and wood-ash to mix his own glazes and clay-bodies, letting the material guide the creative process. He is interested in sustainable kiln-building and traditional methods of glazing and wood-firing, trying to create pots which allow the material to shine through in the fired work. He makes from his workshop on the Wirral Peninsula and teaches workshops internationally.
