Course information:

This class is a mixed bag of all things ceramic, and suitable for people of all abilities.

We offer a mixture of both throwing on the wheel and handbuilding projects for students to follow, or experienced ceramicists may work on their own projects with support from the tutor.

We follow a curriculum of a multitude of different types of projects, to keep things interesting for returning students and to cover as many of the different areas of ceramics as we can!

Our curriculum changes every 12 weeks, to keep things spicy and fun for returning students.

What we will cover:

  • Throwing cylinders, bowls, handles and trimming on the wheel.

  • Soft and hard slab handbuilding.

  • Dug out method (‘kurinuki’), agateware (‘nerikomi’).

  • Pinch & coil pots, and variations on that theme.

  • Slip decoration, underglaze and a variety of other decoration.

  • Any other techniques the tutors choose to include.

  • Please request demonstrations if we haven’t covered something, and we love it when our students bring in their own ideas and sketchbooks!

Each weekly session is 2.5 hours long, allowing for 2 hours making and 30 minutes team clean up.

All tools, equipment and aprons are provided.

Alongside our regular weekly classes we also run regular weekly “drop-in” sessions for you to catch up or practice your ceramics skills. These are bookable up to 6 weeks in advance, and run throughout the week (termtime only.)
